HIV Unit - Moscow, Russia These babies are normally sent to state hospitals where they receive poor nutrition and a low standard of care. This is because the medical community generally regards these children as beyond help and is reluctant to use precious resources simply to prolong the inevitable. As result of malnutrition, the babies' immune systems soon become further compromised and in most cases they develop AIDS and die within a couple of years. We now know that with good care and nutrition these babies acually have an excellent chance of surviving. In fact, over 80 will actually become HIV negative before they reach age 3! At Special Orphanage #7, over 30 babies receive a very high standard of nutrition and care. Much of the equipment at this orphange has been provided by the Brotherhood of Compassion (a division of the Moscow Central Baptist Church) and UK based agency EuroVangelism. This is a perfect example of the Church taking back the role of caring for some of our society's most disadvantaged children and the fruit of this involvement is clear. What initially began as a tentative experiment by the Ministry of Health is now producing excellent results. The Ministry has renovated another wing of the building which when fully equipped, will double the current capacity to over 60 babies. Our most urgent need in this facility is for hospital quality cribs. To avoid transport costs and challenges we can purchase these in Russia at a cost of Can$250 each. This is an ideal project for a family, home fellowship group, or small church to support. Use the links below if you would like to give a chance at life and a future to a baby who currently has no hope. ****PROJECT COMPLETED****
